What is the Gospel? (in 2 Minutes)

The Gospel is the most wonderful news in the universe: God saves sinners through Jesus Christ. It begins with bad news that leads to incredible good news.

The Bad News: We Are Lost

Every person has rebelled against God by breaking His perfect law. We were born with hearts that love sin more than God. Scripture says "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This isn't just making mistakes; it's cosmic treason against our Creator. The penalty is death (Romans 6:23).

We cannot fix this problem ourselves. Good works, religious activity, and moral improvement cannot remove our guilt before a holy God. As Isaiah declares, even our best efforts are "like filthy rags" in God's sight. We are spiritually dead, unable to save ourselves or even desire God until He acts first.

The Good News: God Saves

But God, being rich in mercy and love, provided a perfect solution. He sent His eternal Son, Jesus Christ, to live the perfect life we could never live and die the death we deserved to die. Jesus was fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, who never sinned once. On the cross, God the Father placed our sins on His Son, and Jesus satisfied God's wrath against our rebellion.

Jesus didn't just die; He rose from the dead three days later, proving He had conquered sin, death, and hell. His resurrection guarantees that all who trust in Him will also rise to eternal life.

How We Receive This Gift

Salvation comes through faith alone in Christ alone. This means turning from your sin (repentance) and trusting completely in what Jesus did, not in your own efforts.

When you believe like this, God gives you a new heart that loves Him. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside you, and you are adopted as His child forever. Your sins are completely forgiven, and you receive Christ's perfect righteousness as your own.

The Result: New Life

Those who belong to Christ are changed from the inside out. While Christians still struggle with sin, they have new desires to please God and follow His ways. They join with other believers in local churches, grow in grace through prayer and Scripture, and tell others about Jesus.

The Gospel isn't just about going to heaven when you die (though that's wonderful). It's about God rescuing rebels and making them His beloved children who will enjoy Him forever through worship and fellowship.
